This week, negotiations between Chelsea and Barcelona to acquire forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will continue.
The 33-year-old only joined Barcelona in January after his four-year time at Arsenal ended in acrimony. Still, he’s unlikely to be a regular starter for the Catalans this season, with Robert Lewandowski joining from Bayern Munich.
Aubameyang’s ambitions of playing as a wide inside forward may also be shattered because Barcelona has strengthened in wide areas by adding players like Raphinha.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are in desperate need of striker reinforcements following Romelu Lukaku’s unsuccessful return to Stamford Bridge.
However, Chelsea will speak with Barcelona this week in an effort to convince Aubameyang to return to the Premier League. A meeting with his representatives has also been planned to determine whether or not he is ready to leave Spain after only seven months.
Aubameyang has not yet expressed a desire to come to Chelsea, but the possibility of working with Tuchel once again under the new Todd Boehly administration may be a major motivator for him to do so.
