According to a recent report, Chelsea has entered the race to sign Joao Felix this January and is considering a loan arrangement.
There has been increased discussion about Felix leaving Atletico, with Los Rojiblancos prepared to offload the Portuguese forward as early as the January transfer window.
The Telegraph reports that Chelsea have emerged as potential buyers, seeking a loan deal with either an option or an obligation to buy Felix amid reports linking him to a move to the Premier League.
Despite Portugal’s elimination from the World Cup in the quarterfinal, Felix shone for his country and has long been regarded as one of the top young players in football.
According to the report, Atleti are willing to sell at the right price because Felix has lost favor with Diego Simeone, and Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly is ready to act quickly to close a deal.
The 23-year-old was signed by Atleti in 2019, and the club is now looking to recoup the £113 million they paid for him. Many believe the club’s cautious style of play has hindered him over time and decreased his effectiveness.
Felix feels like it’s a good time to find a new challenge even though he’s only 23. While things haven’t exactly gone his way since moving to Madrid, he has repeatedly demonstrated his talent. But it’s debatable whether he will be able to immediately remedy Chelsea’s lack of offensive firepower.
Chelsea and Potter must focus on their return to Premier League action against Bournemouth on December 27 while rumors about Felix continue to swirl.
