Espanyol’s chairman acknowledged that Raul de Tomas could leave the club this summer, giving Aston Villa hope that they can sign him.
Steven Gerrard is looking for reinforcements up front, despite having Danny Ings, Ollie Watkins, Cameron Archer, and Keinan Davis in his squad. As a result, Aston Villa are interested in Espanyol star De Tomas.
The Madrid native has four caps for Spain’s national team. He has previously scored for Real Valladolid, Rayo Vallecano, and Benfica, as well as appearing for Real Madrid on one occasion.
De Tomas left Benfica in January 2020 after being acquired by Espanyol for £20.25 million. Since then, in 89 games, the attacker has scored 45 goals.
He went on to become Espanyol’s leading scorer that season with 17 of those goals coming during the 2021–22 season.
Dean Jones, a transfer insider, claims that Villa are considering De Tomas’ potential arrival in England.
“I think it’s one that’s been explored,” Jones told online source GiveMeSport.
“I think that ultimately, Steven Gerrard needs to know for sure that it definitely elevates their goal output for next season. That’s what he’s trying to make sure of; there can be no risks taken here.”
