Giovani Lo Celso, an Argentine midfielder, has been approved for a loan move to Villarreal, and Fabrizio Romano has detailed the conditions.
Lo Celso has 84 appearances for Tottenham across all competitions, tallying eight goals and six assists. He first joined the team on loan from Real Betis in August 2019, and the following summer, they paid about £27 million to sign him on a permanent basis.
During the previous season, Lo Celso was demoted at Tottenham and later joined Villarreal on loan.
Despite only contributing two goals in 21 games, the player has shown enough to be reassigned to Unai Emery’s squad.
Villarreal beat Fiorentina to a deal with Spurs for Lo Celso.
Romano claims that the transfer is finished and only requires the two clubs to make an announcement.
For the 2022–23 season, Lo Celso will return to Villarreal on loan. But Spurs have already taken two steps to guarantee that they are in control of his future.
First of all, as part of the agreement, Spurs did not grant Villarreal the option to purchase the 26-year-old. This is true despite earlier reports claiming the La Liga team would have this choice.
Second, and perhaps more importantly, Spurs can call off the loan transfer in January if another team makes a permanent bid for Lo Celso.
Romano ends his tweet by stating it is ‘always up to the player’.
