Former Real Madrid forward James Rodriguez has lamented how the Spanish giants denied him a move to Atletico Madrid.
Rodriguez moved to Real Madrid from AS Monaco in 2014 after stunning performances for Colombia at the FIFA World Cup.
The former Colombia international spent six years at the Santiago Bernabeu, including a two-year loan spell at Bayern Munich.
He scored 37 goals and made 42 assists in 125 games for Los Merengues but was relegated to the bench in his final days at the club, with just 14 appearances across competitions in the 2019-20 season.
At the time the forward said he received an exciting offer from Atletico Madrid but Real Madrid did not allow him to make the move.
He said via TheMadridZone, “Atlético & Cholo wanted me. I put a lot of pressure to go, but Real Madrid didn’t let me. I wanted it. It was a super interesting project.”
Rodriguez left Real Madrid in 2020 as a free agent. Since then, he has had one-year spells at Everton, Al-Rayyan SC, and Olympiacos.
