Shehu Abdullahi, a Nigerian international, has won the Cypriot Cup with Omonia Nicosia, and the Super Eagles defender has expressed his joy.
After Abdullahi was sent off in the fifth minute of the final, his team was forced to play the most of the game against Ethnikos Achnas with ten men.
Despite the fact that the game ended 0-0 in regulation, Omonia went on to win the tie 5-4 on penalties and take the famous title.
The 29-year-old wrote: “I am excited we finished the season on a high despite the League challenges. Our 15th Cup honours and the first since 2012. I am honoured to be part of this success.
“Since I arrived at Omonia, we have won three titles, played in Europe, and restored the club pedigree. This is for the Omonia fans for their unconditional love and support during the season, they believed in us and fought through the tough moments with us.
“It was amazing seeing them smile in thousands, flying the green colours. We could feel their emotions and we are honoured to have them support us. Love you all.”
For the international friendly matches against Mexico and Ecuador, the former Buraspor defender is expected to join the rest of the Super Eagles players at their United States camp.
