Shehu Abdullahi, a Nigerian defender, has written an emotional farewell message after departing from Omonia Nicosia in Cyprus.
Abdullahi’s contract was set to expire at the end of this month, so he announced his departure on Friday.
After severing ties with Turkish club Bursaspor, the 29-year-old signed a two-year contract with the club in 2020.
Abdullahi won the Cypriot title in his first season at the club and went on to win the Cypriot Cup and Super Cup the following season.
“I am honoured to play for Omonia, in two years we have been able to create history. For decades titles were missing in Omonia & I am glad in two years, we won three titles & restored the pedigree of the club,” Abdullahi wrote on his Twitter handle.
“This is not a goodbye message, but to say we will see in the future.
“I appreciate the management, coaches, backroom staff, and my teammates for the amazing memories we shared.
“To Omonia fans, I appreciate your support and love, I had amazing memories.
“Wishing Omonia success in future endeavours. ”
Abdullahi made 50 league appearances for the club without a goal to his name.
