Rohr confirms contact to become next Eagles coach
Former Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, has revealed that he has been contacted by the Mali football federation (Fémafoot).
This means the German could be the next coach of the Malian national team known as the Eagles.
He, however, has to jostle for the position with 44-year-old former Mali international Eric Chelle, and ex-Benin Republic handler Michel Dussuyer, 62.
The position became vacant following the sacking of Mohamed Magassouba after Mali failed to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Mali are now on the hunt for a new coach as African teams prepare for the AFCON qualifiers.
“Yes, they (Mali) contacted me indeed.
“It’s a good team, which made an unfortunate CAN and which is also eliminated from the World Cup. I saw the two play-offs against Tunisia; they could have qualified.
“They have very good players; it’s an interesting team. The verdict of Fémafoot is expected in the coming days,” Rohr said, speaking on Europe 1 TV.
