Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has encouraged his team to make a move for Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski, according to reports.
This news comes as Romelu Lukaku is expected to return to Inter Milan this summer on a loan deal.
Inter had a loan move rejected earlier this week after a bid of €5 million plus €2 million in add-ons was rejected.
However, with the Serie A club expected to make an improved offer of at least €10 million this summer, it appears that a deal will be made.
As a result, the Blues will have to look for a replacement for their club-record-breaking £97.5 million signing.
Last season, Thomas Tuchel’s team struggled to find an outright goalscorer, with Lukaku finishing the season as the top scorer with only 15 goals.
Manchester City and Liverpool both had consistent scorers as they battled for the Premier League title, something Chelsea hopes to achieve next season.
Tuchel previously stated in May that he plans to add to his forward line this summer.
He said:”If we stick to the group then we will try to solve it with these players. Is it necessary to bring more offensive players around the box to create more distractions, to create more space for each other? We will ask that question. Can we do better in the structure? Can we push the players more? Did we rotate too much? Let’s see.
“There are a lot of options. The numbers we produce from our offensive players don’t allow us to over-perform and we need over-performance if we want to be nearer to the top two teams. I am not pointing fingers, I am not blaming anybody, but we need over-performance from everybody. It’s not over-performance if we have only single figures in scoring and assisting.”
Chelsea should target Bayern Munich’s Lewandowski, according to Tuchel.
According to the report, Tuchel has ‘encouraged’ Chelsea to enter the race for the Polan international if a deal can be made.
Chelsea have been linked with Lewandowski as a possible replacement for Lukaku, who is set to leave Bayern Munich in the summer.
The 33-year-old, however, dealt a blow to Thomas Tuchel’s pursuit of him by admitting that he is only considering a move to Barcelona.
He said: “No other offers were even considered by me other than that of Barcelona. I want to leave Bayern, that’s clear.”
However, Tuchel could do his best in order to convince the star to join his rebuild at Chelsea this summer.
