Iker Casillas claims his Twitter account was hacked after the former goalkeeper seemed to come out as gay.
On Sunday afternoon, the former player for Real Madrid and Spain published a brief post on the website, which was quickly removed.
It read: “I hope you respect me: I’m gay.”
Barcelona legend Carlos Puyol then replied to the tweet with the message: “The time has come to tell our story, Iker.”
However, according to the Spanish publication AS, Casillas’ post was written as a joke to prevent tabloids from writing and spreading rumours about his personal life.
The retired star later claimed that his account had been hacked after the tweet was live for more than an hour.
Puyol also deleted his post shortly after.
He wrote: “Hacked account. Luckily everything in order. Apologies to all my followers. And of course, more apologies to the LGBT community.”
