Brazil has been knocked out of the 2022 World Cup on penalties.
The Selecao arrived in Qatar as one of the tournament favourites, looking for their first title since 2002 and a record sixth overall. Tite’s team won two group stage games against Serbia and Switzerland before falling to Cameroon.
However, they rallied in the last 16 against South Korea, winning 4-1, and they appeared to be on their way to the semi-finals for the first time since 2014 when Neymar broke the deadlock against Croatia halfway through extra time.
Croatia went on to equalise and then win 4-2 on penalties after Rodrygo and Marquinhos missed. Neymar didn’t even attempt a shot in the shootout.
Brazil’s wait for a World Cup title will now be at least 24 years by 2026, matching the gap between their victories in 1970 and 1994.
