On Sunday at the Al Bayt Stadium, England will play Senegal in a round of 16 matchup for the 2022 World Cup.
The team led their group and is still unbeaten overall for Gareth Southgate. Since England has faced African opponents in seven previous World Cup games, they have never lost (W4 D3). They have also been in excellent goal scoring form, scoring nine goals in their first three games at the 2022 World Cup. Only the years 2018 (12) and 1966 (11) have they scored more goals in a single World Cup.
The AFCON champions, who also advanced to the World Cup’s knockout rounds in their first appearance in 2002, have now done so once more. Although they are without their talismanic forward Sadio Mane, Aliou Cisse’s team is demonstrating that the whole is more significant than the parts.
