Kylian Mbappe’s future at Paris Saint-Germain appears to be in the balance in the coming days.
The Frenchman is expected to leave the French champion for the Spanish champions, Real Madrid. However, his present team is hopeful that Mbappe would do a spectacular U-turn and stay with them.
According to reports, PSG is prepared to raise his current wage package to £4 million per month and has offered Mbappe a hefty signing-on fee of £100 million.
There will be additional incentives for goals, the Ballon d’Or, and Champions League victory. PSG has offered a massive salary deal in a last-ditch effort to retain the services of their most valuable player.
Despite this, it is believed that PSG is aware that Mbappe would make substantially less in Madrid, and that his decision to Spain is not motivated by money.
PSG have strained every sinew in the previous 18 months to urge Mbappe to stay. By informing him that he is the club’s lifeblood, and that Mbappe represents all the club stands for: A global phenomenon, an unstoppable force in the game, born in Paris.
However, insiders close to Mbappe believe that PSG’s finances does not match the club’s ambition, and there is a sense that the club is stifling Mbappe’s development, with the club’s dreadful Champions League record a reason for the 23-year-old’s desire to leave for Madrid.
Real Madrid has also utilized this opportunity to entice Mbappe away from Paris, touting him as the club’s next Cristiano Ronaldo, a player Mbappe has admired since he was a toddler.
Mbappe to Real Madrid has long been discussed, so much so that PSG sports director Leonardo said last month: “In Madrid they have been sure for three years that Kylian will end up at Real.”
Time is ticking and an announcement from Mbappe on his future is approaching; Madrid are certain he will end up as their flagship signing of the summer; but does PSG have another ploy up their sleeves in a desperate bid to keep Mbappe? Time will only tell.
