Premier League Weekend Roundup: On the second week of the 2022/23 English Premier League, EPL, games; football lovers got a fill of excitement, thrill and many other emotions- both the highs and lows- (as for Manchester United fans, I can’t categorically say it was the lows because it must have been hellish; somewhat beneath the lows.)
Well, Stamford Bridge gave us something to distract us a bit after Man Utd disastrous fall. The battle of Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge was so controversial that we all forgot about Erik ten Hag’s Cristiano Ronaldo present squad losing to Brentford 4-0. At some point, I thought Conte would punch Tuchel or vice versa.
Taiwo Awoniyi made record with his debut and became Nottingham Forest first EPL goal scorer of this century. Following his successful transfer from Union Berlin, the Super Eagles forward became the club’s most expensive player this summer.
The newly promoted EPL team scored last on May 16, 1999 by player Chris Bart-Williams.
Back in Manchester, Pep had to give star player Erling Haaland a tap on the back following his sort of disappointing home performance against Bournemouth, despite City winning the game.
Harry Kane came to the rescue with a late header saving Spurs from defeat at Stamford Bridge, and the two sides had their managers handed a red card which was fair play by referee Anthony Taylor. The Football Association will probably investigate the incident to gather information and impose sanctions.
The two coaches will be sidelined for Chelsea’s and Tottenham’s respective matches against Leeds and Wolves next weekend.
I can not end this roundup without naming Gabriel Jesus, who continues to shine, giving Arsenal fans high hopes for the 2022/23 EPL season.
