Paris 2024: D’Tigress beat Canada, become first African country to reach quarterfinals

Nigeria’s female basketball team beat Canada 79-70 on Sunday to qualify for the quarter-final of the 2024 Olympics.

D’Tigress have now become the first African country to achieve the feat.

Rena Wakama’s ladies began the game on the front foot and had a 10-point lead at some point but allowed the Canadians back into the game.

The two teams could not be separated at the end of the first quarter, sharing spoils 18-18.

D’Tigress went into the break still very much in the game, trailing their opponents by only four points (41-37).

The African champions rallied in the third quarter to lead 55-46.
