Nigeria's Awoniyi leads Nottingham Forest to victory on EPL debut

Nottingham Forest defeated West Ham United 1-0 in their Premier League match on Sunday thanks to a goal from Taiwo Awoniyi.

Steve Cooper decided to start him against the Hammers although the Nigeria international was benched for their opening match at Newcastle United.

In the extra period before halftime, Awoniyi scored the winning goal for the Reds.

Jesse Lingard was the recipient of a low cross from Harry Toffolo, and his shot deflected off a defender and into the goal for Awoniyi.

On the 72nd minute, Samuel Surrige took Awoniyi’s place.

First Premier League goal scored by Nottingham Forest at City Ground since 1999.
Following his successful transfer from Union Berlin, the Super Eagles forward became the club’s most expensive player this summer.

The final player to score at the stadium was Chris Bart-Williams on May 16, 1999.

In the game, one goal from each team was disallowed for offside.

Five minutes before halftime, a goal by Said Benhrama was disallowed, and Brennan Johnson’s goal in the 54th was cancelled out.

When Declan Rice missed a penalty in the 64th minute, West Ham United lost the opportunity to tie the score.
