Nigeria Women top flight side, Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt, made it to the first world club ranking for women football.
The ranking was released by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) last week.
Rivers Angels are the only Nigerian club to make the list.
The ranking was based on the performance of clubs in international and national tournaments over the last 12 months, dated 1st March 2021 up until 28th February 2022.
There are 11 African clubs within top 200 of the ranking which includes four Moroccan club, three South African clubs, one Ghanaian, Nigerian, Kenya and Egyptian club respectively.
Nigeria’s Rivers Angels ranked 1st in Africa and 161st in the world with 86 points; Kenya’s Vihiga Queens are 2nd in Africa and 165th globally with 85 points; South Africa’s TUT Ladies are 3rd in Africa and 175th in the world with 82 points; South Africa’s University of Western Cape are 4th in Africa and 191th globally with 76 points and Egypt’s 91 Wadi Degla also placed 191th with 76 points.
Spanish club, Barcelona are the world’s number 1 with 876 points, French side, Olympique Lyonnais are placed second with 535 points, Germany’s Bayern Munchen are third in the world with 504 points, Chelsea of England are 4th globally with 497 points, France’s PSG complete the top 5 with 477 points.
European clubs like Fiorentina, Empoli, Aston Villa, Villarael and Everton were ranked in 169th, 180th and 198th position respectively, far below Nigerian side, Rivers Angels.
