Ibrahim Gusau, the president of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has said a decision is yet to be taken on the future of Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro.
Paseiro’s one-year contract signed in June 2022 is expected to expire by the end of next month, in the middle of the qualifiers for 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire and there has been clamour among Nigerian football fans not to renew his contract.
Recent reports in the media have it that the NFF have responded to the clamour by stakeholders and fans to sack Paseiro by compiling a list of foreign coaches who may take over before Super Eagles next qualifier against Sierra Leone but the NFF Boss Ibrahim Gusau denied knowledge of the reports.
“I don’t know where they got these reports from because I have not mandated any body to search for a new coach neither has NFF opened discussions with anyone to replace our current coach. To be candid we have not even at board level taken a decision on Peseiro’s contract not to talk of engaging a new coach,”Gusau told Completesports.com.
“All I can tell you is that the NFF will decide whether to extend Paseiro’s contract or terminate it soon when we meet. Honestly, I don’t know where they got those stories from. Whatever decision we reach shall be made public” the NFF president stated.
