Messi flies to USA for Argentina duty ahead of pre-World Cup friendlies

Lionel Messi has travelled to the United States to play in two World Cup preliminaries with his Argentina teammates.

Along with Leandro Paredes, Nicolas Tagliafico, Angel Di Maria, and other players, the forward has arrived in Florida to join the Argentina team for two pre-World Cup friendlies. With the games against Jamaica and Honduras, Lionel Scaloni will try to perfect his preparations for the 2022 World Cup.

Argentina will prepare for both games during a training session at Inter Miami. The Albiceleste’s opening match will take place on September 23 at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium against Honduras. On September 27, Argentina will travel to New Jersey to face Jamaica at the Red Bull Arena.

After a challenging first season following his transfer from Barcelona, Messi has been in excellent form for PSG this season. With six goals and eight assists so far, the attacker appears to be in excellent shape going into what will undoubtedly be his final World Cup. Following its victory at the Copa America in 2021, Argentina will be among the favorites to win the trophy.

With his Champions League goal against Maccabi Haifa, Messi surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo and became the first player to score in Europe’s premier competition against 39 different teams.

The forward will return to PSG after the international break, with the team’s first game against Nice on October 1.
