On the final day of the Ligue 1 season, Kylian Mbappe scored an outstanding hat-trick against Metz, demonstrating why Paris Saint-Germain were so eager to keep hold of him, whereas legend Di Maria received a standing ovation from fans.
The news that Mbappe had signed a new three-year deal at the Parc des Princes was revealed by PSG before their match on Saturday, putting an end to the rumors that had been circulating about his long-term future.
Mbappe had been strongly linked with a summer move to Real Madrid; however, the France international has turned down the opportunity to play at the Bernabeu and has instead committed himself to PSG until the summer of 2025. There had been strong rumors that Mbappe would move to Real Madrid.
Mbappe and Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the president of Paris Saint-Germain, took to the field at the Parc des Princes before the game to celebrate the striker’s contract renewal. Mbappe was wearing a shirt that said “Mbappe 2025” on the back of it.
As soon as the match got underway, it was practically a given that Mbappe would score the first goal for PSG, given that they were already champions of Ligue 1 and had done so back in April.
Mbappe scored the game’s first goal twenty-four minutes into the contest by going around the goalkeeper for Metz, Marc-Aurele Caillard, and then finishing off the rebound.
After another four minutes, he scored his second basket with a somewhat fortunate shot that was successful in beating Caillard.
Neymar scored the third goal just before halftime from close range after a last-ditch challenge prevented Angel Di Maria from scoring. The score was 3-0 at that point.
Mbappe was able to finish off his hat trick just five minutes after the break, despite the fact that PSG did not show any signs of slowing down at all in the second half.
It was now 4-0 in favor of PSG after he took advantage of a mistake made by a defender and then went around Caillard for a second time. After scoring that goal, he now has 39 for the season across all competitions.
Then, in what turned out to be his final game for the club, Di Maria scored a goal, putting the cherry on top for Paris Saint-Germain.
After being taken out of the game at a late stage, he was given a guard of honor by his Paris Saint-Germain teammates and received a standing ovation from the home support. This moved him to tears.
Despite the fact that that was Di Maria’s moment, Mbappe absolutely dominated the day.
Speaking ahead of the match, the France international said: “I would like to announce that I have chosen to extend my contract at Paris Saint-Germain, and of course I am delighted.
“I am convinced that here I can continue to grow at a club that provides everything necessary to perform at the highest level.
“I am also delighted to continue to play in France, the country where I was born, where I have grown up and where I have made my name.”
