In response to rumors that Newcastle might make a move for the Frenchman, forward Allan Saint-Maximin from the Magpies has confirmed he has spoken with Marcus Thuram.
Marcus Thuram, a France international, has a contract that expires at Borussia Monchengladbach at the end of the current campaign. He may leave.
The World Cup finalist has been linked to Newcastle, and Saint-Maximin has acknowledged that he has spoken with the 25-year-old forward.
“He is a great player and I hope we have a chance to take him here. I was so happy for him [to play at the World Cup],” he told The Gazette. “Yeah, I will be honest, I have chatted with him. For me, he’s a great player. I’ve known this guy a long time. I’ve been playing football with him when I was very young. I know all his family. He has great parents. He’s an incredible guy.”
Thuram made an impression at the World Cup for France, picking up assists against Poland and Argentina. This season, Thuram has scored 13 goals in 16 appearances for Gladbach. After his impressive performances this season thus far, the forward may not be short of offers when he can sign a pre-contract in January.
On Boxing Day, the Magpies face Leicester City at the King Power Stadium in their return to Premier League action.
