Marcus Rashford missed training on Monday and is doubtful for Manchester United’s Europa League match against Sheriff Tiraspol.
The Red Devils were defeated by Real Sociedad in their opening Group E match last week, shockingly losing 1-0 at Old Trafford. They now face table-topping Sheriff, who romped to a 3-0 victory over Omonia on matchday one.
Rashford, who along with Jadon Sancho is in line for an England recall, might not play in the game in Moldova, though, as he missed United’s most recent training.
The 24-year-old has already scored three Premier League goals this season, showing signs of returning to form, and was a key player in the 3-1 victory over Arsenal before the football season was put on hold following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
Thursday’s match against Moldova will go on as scheduled, but United’s Sunday Premier League match against Leeds United has already been cancelled due to a lack of police.
Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to start again on Thursday night as he tries to get back into Erik ten Hag’s starting lineup if Marcus Rashford is unable to play due to an injury or a precautionary absence from training.
The 37-year-old Portuguese legend, who was seeking a transfer away from the club over the summer in order to play Champions League football, has largely had a watching brief under Ten Hag. Questions have been raised regarding the player’s ability to adapt to the Dutchman’s style of play.
