Man City vs Liverpool: Current forms of Premier League title contenders

Here, we preview the current forms of the two top-of -the-table teams in the Premier League

The Premier League returns to the television again after the FIFA International break.

Liverpool will travel to the Etihad Stadium in what will be the first game of the weekend in the Saturday lunchtime kickoff.

Manchester City are just one point better than Liverpool heading into the weekend’s headline fixture.

Manchester City played out a 4-4 draw with Chelsea shortly before the international break while the Reds defeated Brentford 3-0 to close the gap at the league summit.

The Cityzens’ 4 goals at Stamford Bridge meant that they have scored at least three times in each of their last five contests.

Since drawing 1-1 with Everton on New Year’s Eve 2022, Pep Guardiola’s side has won a sensational 15 games from 15 top-flight home matches in 2023.

Their overall winning streak at the Etihad stands at 23 matches in all tournaments.

Man City could equal Sunderland’s long-standing record of 24 successive home wins set between 1890 and 1892, with a win over Liverpool on Saturday.

Liverpool are just one goal better than Arsenal in third place, with Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota firing on all cylinders.

Salah bagged a brace before Jota’s sublime curler completed the job against Brentford two weeks ago.

Before then they recorded a disappointing draw with Luton Town and a dampening defeat to Toulouse in the Europa League.

Liverpool’s last two visits to the Etihad ended in 3-2 defeat in the EFL Cup last December before a 4-1 pummelling in April.

The only time Klopp’s Liverpool left Etihad with a shout of victory was in 2015.
