As a result of setting up Mohamed Salah’s opening goal against Aston Villa on Monday, Andrew Robertson surpassed Leighton Baines as the defender with the most assists in Premier League history.
Upon returning to league play, Liverpool only needed five minutes to take the lead. Robertson was instrumental in this by getting past Villa’s offside trap and delivering a low cross that Salah converted.
Robertson now has 54 Premier League assists, one more than Baines, a former left-back for Everton and Wigan Athletic, who retired in 2020.
Trent Alexander-Arnold, who ranks third on that list with 45 assists, demonstrated his own creativity for Liverpool’s opening goal with a flawless pass to free fellow full-back Robertson.
In addition, Robertson’s assist was his fifth in the Premier League this year, which is a record for Jurgen Klopp’s team; Salah is second with three.
