Liverpool defender, Virgil Van Dijk has stated that the departure of Eden Hazard from Chelsea hasn’t prevented the club from being a top contender.
Eden Hazard joined Real Madrid this summer leaving Chelsea without a talisman to look up to.
However, Van Dijk believes Chelsea under new manager Frank Lampard still stand a better chance against Liverpool in tonight’s UEFA Super Cup in Istanbul.
Liverpool head into the game on the heels of a 4-1 win against Norwhich City, while Chelsea go into the game following a 4-0 loss to Manchester United all in the English Premier League.
“Hazard is a quality player and he was important to Chelsea but I think they have plenty of quality players,” Van Dijk was quoted by Goal.
“I think they play a little bit different than they did last year.
“We will analyse them and then we will be prepared.
“Nothing that happened last season will have any impact on what is going to happen. It is going to be a new game.
“They have a new situation at the club there but we want to do better than we did last year and we will see,” he said.
