Lionel Messi speaks on winning another Ballon d’Or award

36-year-old Lionel Messi speaks on winning another Ballon d’Or award after claiming the 2023 award

Argentina superstar, Lionel Messi, has spoken of winning a 9th Ballon d’Or.

Messi won the award for a record-extending eighth time in Paris on Monday. No player, apart from Ronaldo and Messi, has won the award more than three times.

Ronaldo has 5 Ballon d’Or gongs to his name while Messi now has eight in his basket of awards.

The 36-year-old was awarded ahead of Erling Haaland and former Paris Saint-Germain teammate, Kylian Mbappe, who finished second and third respectively.

“If I dream for the ninth Ballon d’Or? No, no, I stopped thinking about the Ballon d’Or a while ago, and winning it was never a priority for me, especially now that I have achieved everything in my career.

“I think it’s the last Ballon d’Or and I’m happy to have achieved everything and be the player with 8 Ballon d’Ors.”
