Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has picked defender Nacho Fernandez as the new captain of La Liga giants.
This was following the departure of former captain Karim Benzema.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Nacho, a Spain international, who is close to signing a new contract that will keep him with the LaLiga giants until 2024, would wear the captain armband for next season.
Nacho, 33, has been with Los Blancos since his youth and was due to become a free agent at the end of June.
He was linked with a move to Chelsea as a replacement for Cesar Azpilicueta but has now made a u-turn and will extend his stay under Carlo Ancelotti.
Nacho’s renewal is also a blow for Inter Milan, who were reportedly interested in signing him on a free transfer.
