With a well-deserved 3-1 victory over arch rival Barcelona on Sunday in the Clasico at the Bernabeu, Real Madrid increased its lead over Barcelona in the La Liga standings to three points.
Barcelona entered the game eager to demonstrate their domestic dominance because their Champions League campaign was hanging by a thread. They controlled the ball for the majority of the game, but their assault lacked much bite, allowing Los Blancos to take advantage of two counterattacks in the first half to take them out.
The outcome ends Barcelona’s undefeated start to the season and puts Madrid in a commanding position at the top of the league with 25 points from nine games.
