With his penalty against Ghana on Thursday, Cristiano Ronaldo became the first player to score in five World Cups.
Ronaldo stated that he is “very proud” of his record-breaking goal against Ghana.
The Portuguese forward set another milestone to his already stellar career while helping Portugal win the World Cup opener.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s statement
“It was a beautiful moment, my fifth World Cup,” Ronaldo said after the game “We won. We started on a good foot. It’s a very important win. We know in these competitions the first match is fundamental.”
Ronaldo scored the first of Portugal’s three goals against a tenacious Ghanaian defense. As Uruguay and South Korea played out a goalless draw, the record breaker helped his team take the lead in Group H.
Portugal’s next fixture
Portugal’s next game is against Uruguay on Monday, and Ronaldo is expected to lead the charge once more.
