Chelsea have signed Wesley Fofana, a centre back for Leicester, in a deal worth up to £75 million.
Chelsea will make an initial payment of £70m, with add-ons of an additional £5m possible.
The club and Fofana have agreed to a seven-year contract.
On Saturday, a price was agreed upon between Leicester and Chelsea for Fofana, who will depart to the US for his medical on Monday.
Fofana said: “The two last days have been really big days for me and I’m very happy. I trained this morning with the team and it’s a dream for me. I’m very excited to start playing games for the fans and the club.
“I’m here to win trophies – the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, everything. I came here to win and the club is built to win trophies so I’m here to continue that.”
Three prior offers from Chelsea for Fofana—two exceeding £60 million and one rumoured to be £60 million plus $10 million in add-ons—had all been swiftly rejected by Leicester.
After the player skipped a training session last week in an attempt to force a transfer to Stamford Bridge, Rodgers confirmed that the player had been working out with Leicester’s U23 squad.
Rodgers made his intentions known after Chelsea defeated Leicester 2-1 on Saturday. He wants the Fofana transfer saga to be resolved quickly.
“I think it’s the same with any player,” he said. “If they decide they want to move and they see their future elsewhere, it’s always better to have it done as quick as you possibly can.
“You have to prepare a team and you have to replace that player. It’s only normal – every coach will tell you the same. I don’t think it benefits anyone if it drags on.”
