Sergio Aguero has said he did not believe when Lionel Messi‘s departure from Barcelona was confirmed.
The new broke only two months after Aguero arrived in Catalonia.
The Manchester City legend had high hopes for his move to Camp Nou as he agreed to play alongside his international teammate in June 2021.
However, Barcelona confirmed few weeks that Messi was leaving. This came as a huge shock to Aguero.
The Argentine played in just five matches for the Blaugrana. Because of a heart condition, Aguero was forced to retire early.
In conversation with El Chiringuito’s Jose Alvarez, he discussed the departure of his great friend.
He said: “When the whole thing with Leo happened, I thought someone must have hacked Barcelona’s social media accounts. I thought, this is a joke. I was with [Twitch host] Ibai drinking mate and all of a sudden… he looked at the phone and exclaimed: “No way! is this true?” He showed me the phone with the statement from Barça.
“I said, ‘Ibai, mate, this is impossible’. And I told him right there and then that the website had been hacked. And that it was probably just a bit of sweet talk from Barça who would later say that he’s staying.
“I decided to wait, but the hours went by and I saw that the statement was still there. Suddenly, I thought, ‘Hey, you know what? no one has hacked it.”
Gundogan leaving Man City
Aguero has spoken out on his feelings over Ilkay Gundogan’s future at the Etihad.
There is a lot of speculation over the German international’s future at Manchester City. The contract of the former Borussia Dortmund midfielder with the Sky Blues runs out in the summer of 2023.
But the midfielder wants regular playing time towards the end of his career.
Sergio Aguero, on the other hand, has stated that he does not believe his former comrade would leave the Cityzens this summer. Aguero also lauded the German midfielder for his significant impact to Pep Guardiola’s team.
He will not leave Man City
Aguero has said Gundogan will not leave the Etihad.
According to Stake.com, he said: “Gundo – I’m not totally sure he’s going to leave. He’s a really important player and provides major quality to the team, like the Aston Villa game proved. As far as I know, he’s got one more year in his contract. I hope he can stay. His contributions truly help the team.”
