“He’s a proven top player”- Graham Potter on Raheem Sterling’s form

If they want to get the most out of Raheem Sterling, according to Chelsea manager Graham Potter, their club must progress as a whole.

Chelsea has lost its last four Premier League games, and its next EFL Cup match is against Manchester City. For the first time since joining in the summer, Sterling will play against his former team. The boss has no qualms about the quality of the England international, despite the fact that he hasn’t scored in the league since August.

Graham Potter’s comment

Potter told Chelsea’s official website:  “Players go through moments in their careers where it isn’t so positive and sometimes they have moments where everything they touch is gold. I don’t think you can zoom into the individual.

“The team isn’t functioning as well as I would like and that has an impact on individuals. Raheem is an individual in the team so the work for us is to try and improve the team’s structure. I have no doubt about Raheem’s quality and ability. He’s a proven top player.”

Sterling’s current stats for Chelsea

After spending £47.5 million ($57 million) to bring Sterling to Stamford Bridge in the summer, Chelsea will have expected more from the forward than his five goals this season in all competitions.

Sterling might be anticipating Chelsea’s Premier League trip to Newcastle on Saturday. In his last six Premier League matches against the Magpies, the forward has been involved in six goals, scoring five and setting up one.

Sterling will undoubtedly make England’s World Cup squad when it is announced on Thursday, despite his recent struggles. He will, meanwhile, be attempting to build some momentum in his final two club contests before the competition.
