After his conviction for assault in 2020, Manchester United’s Harry Maguire is set to be given a court date in Greece.
The England centre-back is expected to receive notification in the form of a letter from authorities on the island of Syros, where appeals are heard.
The United captain was convicted after an altercation in Mykonos, Greece, in August 2020, while on vacation with his family.
According to The Sun, Maguire will be summoned to court for an appeal hearing within the next few weeks.
Despite the upcoming hearing, it is anticipated that the United defender will not be able to clear his name until at least 2023.
According to Greek sources, Maguire will have to wait until next spring or summer to clear his name in court.
The 29-year-old, who married his long-term girlfriend Fern Hawkins last month, was arrested while on vacation in Greece with her.
While there, Maguire claims he was attacked by Greek police officers for intervening when his sister Daisy was allegedly attacked by two men.
The authorities, however, claim that Maguire and his brother Joe attacked them.
The player was found guilty of assaulting a police officer, swearing, resisting arrest, and attempting to bribe a police officer.
