Liverpool are willing to pay Barcelona midfielder Gavi £7.6 million per year, or £147,000 per week, if he joins the club this summer, according to The Express.
The Reds are expected to be active in the transfer market this summer, as they seek to complete an ‘ultimate rebuild’ after suffering defeats in both the Champions League and the Premier League.
Gavi, a Barcelona wonderkid who has made 47 appearances for the Catalan club this season, could be the ideal addition.
He is a La Masia graduate and one of Europe’s top prospects, with an elegant style reminiscent of Barcelona’s past greats. At the age of 17, the Spaniard has already been compared to Xavi and Iniesta.
Liverpool are on the lookout for a new central midfielder after Naby Keita’s possible departure, and Gavi appears to be the frontrunner.
Barcelona is desperate for Gavi to stay at the club and has recently begun contract negotiations in order to keep him. His current contract is said to include a £42.5 million release clause, which Liverpool would be able to afford.
It’s too early to say whether Liverpool will sign the teenager, but whatever happens, this will be an intriguing chapter of the summer transfer window, with the saga expected to last several weeks.
