In the first of two friendlies to be played this international break, Nigeria defeated Ghana 2-1 on Friday.
The Super Eagles took the lead in the first half through Cyril Dessers’ penalty.
There were no further goals until the second half, when Ademola Lookman finished off a fine team move.
As the second half began, Ghana displayed greater purpose and threat in their attacking play.
However, their momentum took a hit in the 56th minute when defender Jerome Opoku received a red card, leaving spectators puzzled as the reason for his dismissal was unclear.
Even with a player down, the Ghanaians persisted in their search for an equaliser, but their efforts were hampered when Ademola Lookman netted Nigeria’s second goal in the 84th minute.
In the dying moments of the game, Ghana clawed back with a goal four minutes into stoppage time as Jordan Ayew calmly converted from the penalty spot. However, the match concluded 2-1 in favour of the Super Eagles.
