Frank Lampard is reportedly interested in signing Steven Bergwijn for Everton, and he may be offered a transfer away from Tottenham.
Bergwijn would have expected a leading role following his £27 million move from PSV Eindhoven. Especially considering how important he was to the PSV team.
In 149 appearances for the Netherlands, the winger netted 72 goals. In all competitions, he had his best season, scoring 15 goals and adding 13 assists.
During his time at Tottenham, however, he has had a much smaller impact. This is due to his lack of playing time in north London.
Bergwijn has only played 60 times in the Premier League in the past two and a half seasons. With 25 league appearances in the most recent season, he set a new high for him. But he only appeared in four of those games as a starter.
Due to his lack of playing time since joining the club, the Dutchman has expressed his desire to move on. Following the signing of Ivan Perisic, who works in similar areas, those minutes are expected to suffer even more.
Bergwijn recently stated that he would like to “leave Spurs right now.”
He could be given the opportunity to do just that in the near future. Everton and Ajax are said to be interested in signing the star, according to the Daily Mail.
A £17 million bid from Ajax for him was recently rejected.
It is unclear whether he will be permitted to leave Spurs.
