One of the most well-known figures in football in terms of transfer insiders, Fabrizio Romano is now making a move into Formula 1.
The Italian, who is a go-to source for all football news on Twitter with 12.2 million followers, has now revealed Pierre Gasly’s transfer from Alpha Tauri to Alpine.
Since his F1 debut in 2017, the Frenchman has moved from the team formerly known as Toro Rosso to Red Bull and is now back with Alpha Tauri.
Now, however, he is finally prepared to bid farewell to the energy drink-backed company by joining the French team Alpine, which is managed by automotive behemoth Renault.
Since Fernando Alonso’s shocking switch to Aston Martin and Oscar Piastri’s announcement that he wouldn’t be driving for them next season, the move has been heavily rumoured, with race winner Gasly being the obvious choice to drive alongside fellow countryman Esteban Ocon.
Romano’s confirmation of the news, however, comes as a bit of a surprise in terms of how it was announced.
“Different kind of Here we go today!” he wrote. “For some minutes I’ll be into Formula 1.
“I understand Pierre Gasly will join BWT Alpine F1 Team from Alpha Tauri from the end of the season.
“Personal terms all signed and an official announcement is expected in the coming hours.”
Alpine reacted to the news by using the “thinking face” emoji, and Aston Martin joined in the fun by posting a photo of its drivers Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll looking surprised at a phone.
