Popular British journalist, Piers Morgan, has slammed Prince William for failing to attend the Women’s World Cup final.
England played the final of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup on Sunday and lost 1-0 to Spain.
The Lionesses won the European Championship on home soil last summer and were hoping to complete a unique double in Sydney where they came up against fellow Europeans, Spain.
However, they were in Sydney without a Royal presence with both King Charles and Prince Williams absent from one of the biggest sporting occasions in British history.
William, who is also president of the Football Association (FA), on Saturday, posted an apology saying, ‘Lionesses, we want to send you a huge good luck for tomorrow.
“We’re sorry we can’t be there in person but we’re so proud of everything you’ve achieved and the millions you’ve inspired here and around the world.
“So go out there tomorrow and really enjoy yourselves.”
Morgan said in reaction to that message, “With respect, YRH, you should have got on a plane. Ridiculous that the Queen of Spain is attending the World Cup Final to support her nation’s team, and you won’t be there despite being President of the FA.”
The TV host added, “They should (have been there) if you agree to be President of the Football Association and England reach a World Cup Final.
“If it was the men’s team, he’d be there faster than I sprint to McDonald’s when the craving gets too much.”
A 28th minute strike from Olga Carmona ensured that Spain overpowered their European counterparts to emerge winners of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
