Barry Ferguson, a Rangers legend, has forewarned the team that Calvin Bassey and other prominent players might leave Ibrox in the same manner as Joe Aribo.
This was stated in Ferguson’s Daily Record column. Ferguson, who played for Rangers from 1997 to 2003 and from 2005 to 2007, twice won the Scottish Premier League, Scottish Cup, and League Cup.
A deal for Aribo to join Premier League team is currently being negotiated by Rangers and Southampton.
According to Sky Sports, Southampton are willing to trigger a £10 million release clause in the 25-year-contract old’s in Glasgow, with the fee including potential future add-ons.
Aribo, who has spent the last three years with the Premier League team he joined from Charlton Athletic for just £300k, is also open to leaving Rangers for St Mary’s.
Ferguson does not believe that the departure of Rangers’ best players this summer will be stopped by the signing of Aribo by Southampton.
“Morelos and Kent are the obvious worries,” Ferguson wrote. “But there are others like Calvin Bassey and Glen Kamara, who have been attracting interest from down south.
“So, Rangers might have some big decisions to make, and it’s important they have a list of potential replacements just in case Aribo’s move is only the start of the big bids landing.”
