Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has named goalkeeper David De Gea as Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag’s biggest problem at the club.
He said the manager should see the replacement of the Spaniard as a bigger priority than finding a new striker in the summer window.
This was following Manchester United’s 2-1 defeat to city rivals, Manchester City in the FA Cup final at the Wembley Stadium on Saturday.
Ilkay Gundogan’s double sandwiched a Bruno Fernandes penalty to help Pep Guardiola’s side lift their second trophy of the season as they relentlessly chase a treble this season.
De Gea will feel he should have done more to repel Gundogan’s 13th second effort and another strike from outside the box six minutes into the second half especially considering he got a hand to the City skipper’s shot.
A string of recent errors by the former Spain number one has seen fans and pundits alike question the wisdom of prolonging his Old Trafford career.
“David de Gea is a big problem for Man United!” Carragher wrote on Twitter. “Is fixing that position more important than signing a striker?’
Manchester City will complete a treble this season if they are able to beat Inter Milan in the final of the Champions League in Istanbul next week.
