Europa League: Ronaldo, others impressed by Uzoho’s saves

Nigerian international Francis Uzoho was the star player for the Cypriot minnows as Scott McTominay scored in stoppage time to give Manchester United a 1-0 victory over Omonia Nicosia in a game they struggled in.

While Omonia goalkeeper Francis Uzoho deserves special recognition for his numerous saves that nearly gave the Cypriot team an incredible point, Erik ten Hag’s team struggled throughout.

In a largely uneventful first half, the Nigerian international diverted Casemiro’s stinging long-range strike onto the crossbar.

After the break, Uzoho, a Man United fan, was unstoppable as he made two outstanding saves to foil Antony and Marcus Rashford before stopping Fred’s shot and Cristiano Ronaldo’s rebound attempt.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner and Uzoho briefly exchanged pleasantries while on the field as a result, with Ronaldo appearing to praise Uzoho’s play.

Despite earning three points, Man United still trails Real Sociedad, the group’s top team, by three points.

The 23-year-old was applauded by players like Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw as both sets of players shook hands at full time for his outstanding performance, which will be remembered more than the game’s 1-0 loss.
