EPL: ‘Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa are too boring’ – Agbonlahor declares

Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa

Gabriel Agbonlahor has explained why, at the moment, he no longer visits Villa Park to watch Aston Villa.

Agbonlahor scored 74 goals in the Premier League for Villa, setting a record for the club. He played 391 times for the team over the course of his entire career.

He was a huge fan favourite and has consistently defended the team, even after retiring and transitioning to talkSPORT punditry.

Villa is currently 16th in the league with just nine points after nine games due to their early-season struggles.

Only seven goals have been scored by Steven Gerrard’s team so far, which is tied for the second-lowest total in the Premier League. On Monday, they could only draw 1-1 with Nottingham Forest.

“I don’t want to watch Aston Villa play at the moment. I won’t go to Villa Park and watch them. It’s not entertaining,” Agbonlahor told talkSPORT Breakfast.

“The tactics Gerrard is trying to use at Aston Villa… get the ball out to Matty Cash and get crosses in.

“The strikers we’ve got are not ones that are going to get in front of defenders and get headers in.

“It’s very predictable and boring to watch. The two number 10s he played in the last game are not performing….

“When it comes to a game when you open up the pitch they can’t run and can’t get past anyone.

“When I look at the Aston Villa team at the moment, no one can get the ball and take a player on.

“As much as I don’t want to keep bringing up Jack Grealish, it is showing every game we are missing someone like him who can get on the ball in brave areas and take someone on and make something happen.

“The Villa fans are fed up. I didn’t think it was as bad as it is, but they want Gerrard out.”

Although he has been the manager of Aston Villa for nearly a year, Gerrard has only had success in 13 of his 38 matches.

Agbonlahor believes that Gerrard should be given more time despite all of this.
