Tottenham won’t have enough, according to Rio Ferdinand, to bridge the “huge gap” between Premier League rivals Manchester City, Liverpool, and them.
Last season’s top two have spent heavily this summer to ensure they remain at the top next season. Additionally, both have added a promising new striker. Erling Haaland has been added by City, and Darwin Nunez has been acquired by Liverpool for a club-record sum.
The title race has been dominated by City and Liverpool for a while now. Even though teams like Manchester United, Tottenham, Chelsea, and Arsenal have all had their moments, they have never demonstrated the consistency required for a title challenge.
Instead, a top-four struggle has been the topic of conversation at those clubs for some time. However, people are curious to find out who can actually close the gap to the top two.
Tottenham, under Antonio Conte, are expected to improve on their fourth-place finish from the previous season after making a summer spending spree of six new acquisitions.
Ferdinand, a former Manchester United defender, predicts a two-horse race for the Premier League championship.
“Liverpool have got a chance,” the pundit told FootballJOE. “It’s them two [Liverpool and City].
“No-one else gets close to them two again I don’t think. I still think there are six, eight points between second and third.
“If someone like Spurs make that gap up — it’s a huge, huge, huge gap to make up — they’ll be doing something to make that.
“Liverpool and City, I think will be a two-horse race. I think City win it.”
