On Sunday night, Aston Villa defeated Manchester United in a historic victory, marking their first victory under new coach Unai Emery.
The Villans were able to defeat a Red Devils team that was in good form with goals from Leon Bailey, Lucas Digne, and Jacob Ramsey.
What happened in the game?
In the first 10 minutes of Unai Emery’s first game in charge, Aston Villa got off to the best possible start, leading Man Utd by two goals.
After being set up by Jacob Ramsey to advance on goal, Leon Bailey smashed the ball low and powerfully across goal and into the bottom right corner of the net.
Lucas Digne would score the second goal in a stunning way. The French full-back struck the top corner of the goal with a free kick he took from just beyond the penalty area.
On the half-hour mark, Man Utd finally begins to show signs of life, forcing Emi Martinez into two superb saves in quick succession. The young Garnacho, who dribbled past Matty Cash in the box, saw a good effort on goal palmed clear by the goalkeeper, was the first Red Devil to be denied by the Argentine international.
A few seconds later, Martinez stopped Cristiano Ronaldo from scoring by putting his foot on the forward’s header.
Eventually, a deflected Luke Shaw volley provided the visitors with a way back into the contest. The left-back grabbed a loose ball at the edge of the penalty area, blasted it toward goal, and it deflected off Jacob Ramsey’s back and into the goal.
At the start of the second half, Villa came out strong once more, and Ramsey scored a key third goal in the 48th minute. A cut-back cross from Ollie Watkins was coolly side-footed into the top right corner of the goal by the youthful midfielder.
After then, United didn’t really pose a danger to retake the lead as Emery’s men closed the door for the rest of the half pretty comfortably.
