Neal Maupay, a summer acquisition for Everton, scored the winning goal against West Ham at Goodison Park, giving them their first Premier League victory of the campaign.
Early in the second half, Maupay scored from the edge of the penalty area, beating Lukasz Fabianski at the near post.
In terms of possession, there wasn’t much separating the two struggling sides. West Ham made significantly more attempts, although neither team had particularly strong goal-scoring performances overall.
It also continued the Frenchman’s record against West Ham, as he scored in all three of his league starts against them. His 12-game goalless streak in the Premier League, his longest in the top division, was ended.
In the second half, Everton came under pressure. Said Benrahma, a visitor, came the closest to tying the score when his curling shot hit the inside of the post.
However, the Toffees held on to secure a much-needed victory and move as high as 13th in the standings. While Leicester has accrued more points at this point in the season, West Ham is still in the relegation zone and is only ahead of newly promoted Nottingham Forest on goal differential.
