The 2022–23 season is currently underway, and the opening weekend didn’t lack for excitement or plot setup to keep us all intrigued about what the rest of the season might bring.
Here are some of the top scores from the opening exchange of play.
Darwin Nunez vs Fulham
Although Liverpool struggled mightily during their 2-2 draw with Fulham, Darwin Nunez’s entry in the second half unquestionably altered the course of the match. He appeared to be everywhere.
James Ward-Prowse vs Tottenham
Tottenham thrashed Southampton 4-1, leaving them with little to cheer about, but James Ward-precise Prowse’s goal temporarily lifted spirits.
Dejan Kulusevski vs Southampton
Dejan Kulusevski played a major role in the Southampton supporters’ decision to leave the stadium with their heads in their hands.
The Swedish player also produced a magnificent cross that Ryan Sessegnon used to score the game’s equaliser, strutting his stuff and inspiring hope in the Spurs faithful.
Fabian Schar vs Nottingham Forest
Fabian Schar scored against Nottingham Forest with this absolute rocket to record his tenth Premier League goal in his 90th game.
The Newcastle player collected a partially cleared cross and barely hesitated before sending it crashing back into the top corner, demonstrating Schar’s love of long-range screamers.
Callum Wilson vs Nottingham Forest
With a brilliant little flick that looped over Dean Henderson and into the net, Callum Wilson scored his first goal of the season.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall vs Brentford
Last season, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall quietly established himself as a key player for Leicester, but his start to this season was anything but understated.
His 30-yard first-touch shot whizzed past David Raya and into the back of the net after satisfyingly thwacking the post. If you want to see for yourself, go to 0:53 in the video above.
Josh Dasilva vs Leicester
Josh Dasilva, a Bees substitute, curled in this stunning goal six minutes from time to secure the victory.
Dasilva, a sensational young player whose Premier League career has been hindered by a hip injury, was making just his tenth appearance in the top division when he really made a statement.
Erling Haaland vs West Ham
A flawless Premier League debut for the new Man City player was capped off by him positioning his body flawlessly and angling his strike past Alphonse Areola and into the goal.
