Erik ten Hag issues Harry Maguire stern warning

Manchester United block Maguire from joining Newxastle on loan

Manchester United have blocked Harry Maguire from joining Premier League rivals Newcastle United on loan.

However, the Red Devils are open to selling their captain outrightly to their top four rivals.

The England international captain has slipped down the pecking order at Old Trafford this season, starting just eight league games for the club this season.

Three Premier League sides are interested in signing him this summer and Newcastle are among them but according to The Sun, Eddie Howe’s side have been told they must buy him with a loan move not an option.

Aston Villa are also interested in the former Leicester City star with the report suggesting United would be more receptive to a loan offer from Unai Emery’s side.

Tottenham meanwhile have also been credited with interest in the 30-year-old but are yet to make their intentions known.

Maguire lost his place in Erik ten Hag’s side at the start of the season with Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane the manager’s first-choice pairing in the heart of the defence.

Victor Lindelof was also the Dutchman’s preferred option during the final stages of the season with left-back Luke Shaw also selected ahead of Maguire on a number of occasions.
