EPL: Jason Cundy names player to take over from Azpilicueta as Chelsea captain

Former Chelsea player Jason Cundy advises Mauricio Pochettino on the player to name his captain after Azpilicueta’s departure

Former Chelsea player Jason Cundy, has advised Mauricio Pochettino to name Reece James the club’s new permanent captain.

Legendary captain, Cesar Azpilicueta left Stamford Bridge during the week, ending a long term career at the club.

The Spaniard has signed a two-year deal with Atletico Madrid.

The Blues will be needing a new leader in their young squad and while Thiago Silva may take the responsibility, his time at Stamford Bridge is also short.

As such, they will be looking for a long term captain and Cundy feels that Reece James is perfect for the job.

Speaking on who Pochettino should appoint as Chelsea’s next captain, Cundy told talkSPORT that James is the obvious choice.

Cundy said, “If you are going to give the permanent captaincy to anyone, Reece [James] feels like the obvious choice.

“Reece’s fitness levels are the concern. Reece has had injury problems.”
