EPL: I like him – Rio Ferdinand tells Man Utd to hijack Chelsea star’s move to Man City
Former Premier League star Rio Ferdinand has asked Manchester United to hijack Mateo Kovacic’s potential move to Manchester City.
The former Red Devils defender is of the opinion that the Croatian midfielder would be a better addition to the squad than Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong.
Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag attempted to sign De Jong from Barcelona last summer but failed, and multiple reports suggest the United have rekindled their interest in the Dutchman.
Meanwhile, Kovacic has entered the final year of his contract with the Blues, and City have opened talks with him about a summer transfer.
According to Ferdinand, it would be too “complicated” for United to sign De Jong.
“It sounds too difficult and too complicated [to sign De Jong], move on.
“I think Kovacic has got a year left. I like him… He’s different to what we’ve got,” Ferdinand said on his YouTube channel, FIVE.
