Former Man United defender, Gary Neville slams Liverpool over statement against FA

Former Manchester United defender, Gary Neville, has slammed Liverpool over the Reds decision to release a statement criticising the video assistant referee, VAR mistake in Saturday’s Premier League defeat to Tottenham.

The former England international said he believes the wording of the state is ‘dangerous’.

Liverpool played the game with 9 in north London with Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota were sent off at different stages of the game.

Jurgen Klopp’s side thought they had equalised when Luis Diaz raced clear and fired in. But the linesman’s flag to be raised.

The replay showed that the Colombian was onside, but the VAR briefly checked and the game restarted with a free-kick to Spurs.

However, Cody Gakpo scored an equaliser just before the break with Joel Matip netting a last-gasp own goal to seal a 2-1 victory for the North London club.

Liverpool later released a damning statement on Sunday evening saying  they would be ‘exploring a range of options,’ against the match officials.

Reacting, Neville said that the Reds have crossed the line with their statement.

“Jurgen Klopp handled the situation well last night after the game. Most football fans will have had empathy with what happened and recognise it was wrong!” The former Red Devil wrote on X.

“However, Liverpool’s statement tonight is a mistake! Talk of exploring all options (what does that mean!!!) and sporting integrity are dangerous phrases along with being vague and aggressive.

“Sorry we f***ed up was enough!! I said this last night. Sorry should be respected and not undervalued.

“This is a snap reaction that can always be wrong but I feel strongly about it.”
